In the beginning of his career, William worked for CNN Sports Illustrated as an editor and producer before moving on to CNN Sports as a field producer and reporter, where he covered the Super Bowl, the NCAA Final Four, and The Masters.
After Don Imus was sacked from MSNBC in late April 2007, William Geist almost immediately started filling in as a co-host in the 6–9 a.m. time slot.
