Mathilde Cusack was the mother of American comedian Tig Notaro. She was born on January 16, 1946, in New Orleans to parents whose details are unknown. Mathilde lived with her husband, son and daughter in Mississippi before moving to Spring, Texas.

Personal Life

In her personal life, Mathilde Cusack was married twice; first to Pat Notaro, but they divorced after staying in the marriage for several years, in which they had two children, Tig and Renaud Notaro. Renaud worked as a radio talk show host and probably still works in the media industry.

Mathilde Cusack’s second marriage was to Lauric Cusack, and they lived together until she died in 2012. However, the year of their marriage has not been made public. According to her daughter Tig Notaro, Mathilde Cusack was funny, outspoken and outrageous. She was a “go to hell” type of a person if you had an issue with her family members.

She was a grandmother of two through her daughter Tig Notaro. Mathilde Cusack was a supportive mother and loved her children deeply. Even after her daughter dropped out of school to pursue a career in the entertainment industry, she supported her.

Tig Notaro was a music lover; after moving to Denver, she became a band manager, and she used the name Tignation Promotions. She promoted bands for a while and then moved to Los Angeles, California, in the late 1990s to pursue a career in stand-up comedy.

In Los Angeles, Mathilde’s daughter was involved in comedy programs, including Comedy Central Presents, before landing a job as co-host with David Huntsberger and Dunnigan in the podcast Professor Blastoff, working for four years.

In her stand-up comedy career, Tig Notaro has released several albums. The first album, Good One, was released in 2011 by Secretly Canadian; a year later, she released her second stand-up comedy album, Live, which was personal as she had just been diagnosed with cancer.

Mathilde’s Daughter’s Fight with Cancer and Other Issues

Tig Notaro was diagnosed with breast cancer in July 2012. On her first live show after the diagnosis, she talked of her issues, which at first came as a joke. Her performance that day was praised by other comedians, including Louis C.K, who requested Tig to let her release the audio of her comedy. It went viral, and everybody loved her.

Mathilde’s daughter’s then-girlfriend let her after the cancer diagnosis; she felt like the world was crashing, but after her stage performance in august 2012, she became stronger after letting out her issues to the public. Tig met actress and comedian Stephanie Allynne in 2015, and they have two children conceived through a surrogate.

Her Death

Mathilde Cusack died in March 29, 2012 aged 66. It was just a week after Tig Notaro had left the hospital, as she was diagnosed with an intestinal infection, when she heard of her mother’s death. Mathilde Cusack fell, hit her head, fell into a coma, and died. Tig’s mother’s death and her health misfortunes might have been a blessing to her as her career took a different path.
