Whether you’ve been a fan of the show for a long time or are looking for a new series to binge on, Queen of the South is a must-watch. It is based on the telenovela La Reina del Sur by Spanish novelist Arturo Pérez-Reverte. In August 2019, the show was given a fifth season renewal. Due to COVID-19, production of the upcoming season was halted temporarily in March 2020 but will resume in the fall of 2020.
It was revealed in March 2021, that the fifth season will launch on April 7, 2021, and would be the series’ last season. Queen of the South finished in June 2021, after five seasons and 62 episodes.

Story Plot
Queen of the South is based on the telenovela La Reina del Sur, which is adapted on Arturo Pérez-novel Reverte’s of the same name. Teresa Mendoza, a humble Mexican lady who becomes wealthy by constructing a large drug empire, is the protagonist of the series.
Mendoza resides in Sinaloa, Mexico, in the neighborhood of Culiacán. She falls in love with a drug gang member and attempts to climb above her underprivileged circumstances. She is forced to escape after learning her boyfriend has been slain. She crosses the border into the United States, where she comes into contact with someone from her past to take down the boss of the drug network that is chasing her. Mendoza eventually establishes her own drug distribution business and becomes quite affluent, which confronts her with new issues.

Queen of the South’s fifth season ended on June ninth, 2021. The show’s original creators have proclaimed that it’s been formally canceled and that there’ll be no sixth season. There’s very little likelihood that the program is also resurrected.
