Most of the Japanese anime series are based on light novels sharing the same name. One such example is Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash. The first publishing of the light novel series took place eight years ago on 25th June. Ao Jyumonji is the writer and Eiri Shirai is the illustrator of this light novel series.
Ever since the first publication, the idea of adaptation of this light-novel series into manga series was formulated, and this time all the illustrations were done by Mutsumi Okuhashi. Then in 2015, the publishing of the manga series took place on 22nd April. Later, the manga series got adapted into an animated series.
The story of Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash is very interesting as it revolves around a batch who find themselves in a fictional world. After they enter into a new world, they do not remember their past life and make all the efforts for their survival for their living as volunteer troops. The licensing of this dark fantasy anime is done by an American entertainment firm Funimation in North America in the name of Grimgar, Ashes, and Illusions.
Whereas, the rights are purchased by a Japanese publishing company J-Novel Club regarding the publishing of original novels in English. Yes, Press is known to be behind the publishing of the manga adaptation. In the next year (2016) on 11th January, the premiere of the first season of Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash got streamed which became an instant hit among the manga fans and gained new viewership. Story plot
The story of fantasy anime, Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash revolves around a fictional place named Grimgar followed by a clan of people going through multiple adventures after they discover themselves helpless here. Now they do not remember how they landed at Grimgar, all they could remember briefly is their names. These people have to protect themselves from weird fictional creatures.
Now since these adventurers have entered into a new strange world, they need to be familiar with only one rule, and that is either kill or get killed. If we go to the background of this show, then it follows a certain set of adventurers forming a party and making an attempt to get themselves out from a nightmare experience on Grimgar.
A priest named Monato carrying a compelling charm is known to be behind leading the party. The party is attended by Ranta, an unruly knight, Yume, a joyous hunter, Haruhiro, an anxious thief, Moguzo, a gentle warrior, and Shihoru, a hesitant mage. All of these members are strong enough and appear the same to each other. But there is a difference in their personas.
But despite differences and usual disagreement with each other, the group has to unite together and should be caring to each other. And this is important if they want to survive in the savage environment in Grimgar. Comparatively to the game world, Grimgar is one with actual happenings. They all need to realize the fact that if anyone gets killed, then a comeback is impossible.
Briefing some characters of Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash
Manato
Manato is a priest and is one of the main characters in Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash until he gets killed when attacked by a Goblin archer. It is he who gathers other different characters forming a group. Manato was an able warrior described as a defensive tank.
Haruhiro
Haruhiro is the anxious thief and another leading character in the dark fantasy anime. He succeeds Manato after his death. He seemed to be in a tense state at the time of his arrival at the party. But little did he expect that he would be the next leader of the group after Manato gets killed by a Goblin archer. In the beginning, he did not sound so confident but later he turns out to become a bankable person after the group chooses him to lead the group. And during his journey, he masters multiple skills that make him a tough contender.
Merry
Other than Manato, Merry is also one of the central characters of Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash. Earlier she belonged to another adventurers clan. She joins after Haruhiro takes the lead after the tragic demise of Manato. Merry is a person who spares only a few words, she is shocked by the death of the latter former group leader. Merry is presented as an expert in healing skills.
Moguzo
If there is any macho character in the group in terms of physical power, then he is Moguzo the warrior standing tall among his peers. He is a sturdy member. Now being a warrior, it is obvious to think that he would be adorned with armor and sword of course. Moguzo is an able fighter who encounters the biggest foes.
When it comes to behavioral traits, Moguzo is different from other warriors with rough nature. He may appear tough from the outside, but at heart, he is very kind-hearted. He always speaks politely with kindness in his words. Counting other qualities of warrior Moguzo, he has expertise in cooking and can make yummy dishes for the party to feed on after battles. But unfortunately, his fate also comes to an end when killed during the battle. Just like Haruhiro replaced Manato after his demise, the void of Moguzo is filled by another warrior named Kuzaku.
When to expect the second season of Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash?
Wonderfully scripted, and engaging content plus the portrayal of characters will ignite curiosity among the fans for season 2 of Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash. But sorry to say, it is not going to take place so early, since there is no official announcement so far. So expect it by 2022.
