The internet serves a big part of society today. With the fast growth of modernization with technology and inventions, almost everyone lives their day-to-day life with it. According to the definition given by Wikipedia, when we say the internet, is a global system of interconnected computer networks that uses the Internet Protocol Suite (TCP/IP) to communicate from network to device. A vast array of electronic, wireless, and optical networking technologies connect the various private, public, academic, business, and government networks, which range in size from local to global. It provides a wide range of information resources or services, and one big example of it is the World Wide Web (WWW).
There are billions of internet users worldwide. Users usually make use of the internet for social networking and entertainment, with a social networking app or social media. Using social media, it is very easy to share data there. It is a place where you can share information with people all over the world. No matter where you are, it is very easy to get information there. This is one of the reasons why the internet has such a big impact today. People can easily contact each other, gather information, and socialize through it. Your social media timeline is shown with things that you actually enjoy. The flow of the algorithm will determine your interest in things you search for, like, or interact with most of the time.
Social Media will also gather your information like name, date of birth, and email address or contact information. Just by signing up to a social networking site, a copy of your personal information can be easily saved. Data shared on the internet also comes in the form of media. Pictures or videos of people, animals, or events are easily shared in this medium.
If you are using the internet for work, academics, or business, you must be familiar with saving your important files or documents. Cloud storage is a place that allows you to save data. It is where you can upload, store, manage, and share your data and files. With cloud storage, you can not only backup and archive documents; you can also easily transfer documents from one device to another. It can also manage your large media files and save and distribute them globally. Think of cloud storage as your safety in the office but only digitally and it is more convenient. There are many services on the internet that provides cloud storage and one known example of this is Google Drive. Google Drive offers 15GB of free storage space for each user. But just like other cloud storage services, it may require you to pay for more space to store your files. Other mobile companies already have free cloud storage on their devices. One example of this is iCloud by Apple. Cloud storage like this just requires you to backup your files that already exist on your devices to the storage place so that you won’t have a problem. But, of course, you can still upload your own data or files that are separated from your device storage.
Hacking on the internet is very easy to do as there are a lot of experts in the IT field. This is why you should be extra careful and safe when putting up that information on the internet.
A.) Putting up passwords
Signing up for a social networking site requires you to make a password so that no one can easily hack your account. When making a password, make sure that it is not easy enough for anyone to know (even if it’s your family or friends). You also should not tell anyone your password and remember it. Having a password manager might help you organize your account on each website. Usually, password managers are already available on devices but if yours doesn’t have one, you can easily download it on the app store or add an extension to your browser.
When creating accounts, make sure that you are creating an account on a legitimate site. Enabling multi-factor authentications on your accounts on social networking sites might even help you to surely secure your account.
B.) Using safe social networking sites
When exploring the internet, make sure to surf safely. Avoid opening fake-looking sites that look scammy. Avoid clicking on ads on sites that are usually annoying. Using an ad-blocker might help you avoid these scams as some sites will direct you to another link without even clicking anything.
C.) Engaging in Social Media
One of the very important things to remember when logging on to social media is by being careful with your personal information. Creating accounts might require putting up your name or username but be careful in using your real name. It may also require your contact information, like your number and email. Contact information is used to secure your account but it can also be displayed publicly, especially when you are doing business. Thus, this is why it is important to review the information displayed on your profile. If you want, you can turn your account to private to keep your information hidden from the public.
When socializing on the internet, make sure not to give out your personal information to people you meet online. When meeting them, make sure to use caution and don’t let down your guard.
The Internet is like society digitally. You interact with a lot of different people, but just like in society, there is always a dark side we should be careful of. The Internet is such a big place that there’s a lot you need to learn and take caution off. But as the world slowly transitions to modernization, we also learn how to live with it.
